Овцебык
Овцебык или мускусный бык, как показали современные исследования, стоит ближе к баранам, нежели к быкам, как предполагалось раньше. Это довольно крупное животное плотного телосложения: длина тела 180— 245 см, высота — 110—145 см, масса — 200—300 кг. Самки примерно на одну четверть меньше самцов.
Голова большая, морда широкая. Рога в основании уплощены, расширены и покрывают у самцов лоб, далее они загибаются вниз у самой головы, и их концы изогнуты вперед-вверх. Шерсть густая и необычайно длинная, она на 60—80% состоит из пуховых волос. Длинная ость на груди и боках достигает 60—90 см; покрывая все тело животного, она свисает почти до земли. Летний наряд темно-коричневый, зимний — почти черный. В сравнительно недавнем прошлом мускусный бык был широко распространен в Арктике.
